Mechanical Engineer I (New England)

Weston & Sampson is seeking an entry level Mechanical Engineer or Designer with 0-3 years of experience to join our Building Mechanical team in selected Weston & Sampson New England offices. This is an opportunity for a motivated young professional to grow as a holistic design/energy engineer and be a significant contributor to shaping the company’s future in these industries.

What you’ll do:

• With the oversight of a senior engineer/designer, conduct engineering, design and energy auditing/analysis services for both new and retrofit projects for a variety of facility types within the private, public and municipal sectors including but not limited to commercial, institutional, industrial, federal, and educational facilities.
• Responsibilities will include Revit 3D BIM modeling, maintaining project documentation, coordinating with multi-disciplinary personnel located in both local and regional offices, sub-consultants, utility companies, equipment vendors and clients.
• Requires local travel within New England and occasionally the east of the US for project meetings and site investigation.

What you’ll bring:

An ideal candidate will have a fundamental understanding of and/or some experience in mechanical, HVAC and/or energy related systems.

As this is an entry level opening, experience is not required. For those with experience considering the position, desired experience would include energy analysis and/or HVAC/Mechanical design working in a multi-disciplinary professional engineering firm. A working understanding of air-side, hydronic, steam, and BAC systems as they pertain to HVAC and/or central plants systems is a plus.  Building load and energy computer modeling, Trane Trace or Carrier HAP or similar and Revit 3D BIM modeling will be a core function of the position.

What you’ll also bring:

• Minimum of 0-3 years of relevant mechanical design and/or energy related experience
• BSME or other technical training with a focus on HVAC and/or energy systems from an accredited institution is desirable
• EIT is preferred but not required
• Candidate will be able to gain a working knowledge and understanding of ASHRAE design and energy standards as well as other building codes
• Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability of working safely at job sites in and around large mechanical and electrical equipment
• Experience with dealing with multiple projects at a time
• Good Interpersonal and communication skills
• Proactive, production and results oriented; strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Valid Driver’s License
