Weston & Sampson is seeking a motivated individual looking to take their career to the next level by joining our growing MEP group as a Senior Electrical Design Engineer. Positions are available in any one of our Massachusetts or New Hampshire offices. This position will support our growing internal and external client base serving the commercial, institutional, educational, Water and Wastewater industries. This role will be involved in the production of contract documents for bidding and construction as well as supporting work through project construction.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Work primarily on federal low and medium voltage power projects to include transmission and distribution, switchgear replacement, substation upgrades, and design of power for new and building renovation projects
  • Production of Engineering documents and specifications for both new construction and renovation projects
  • Oversite of junior staff, field investigation of existing facilities and shop drawing review
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary personnel located in both local and regional offices, sub-consultants, utility companies, equipment vendors and clients
  • Develop electrical plans and specifications for bidding purposes 
  • Prepare design and construction documents in Auto CAD for various types and sizes of facilities
  • Perform electrical engineering design and associated calculations including equipment sizes, ratings, low voltage generator ratings and develop electrical equipment layouts
  • Select electrical equipment.
  • Perform assessments of electrical systems
  • Take guidance and direction from senior engineers to the completion of designs and drawings
  • Perform facility electrical surveys, record existing conditions, develop existing facilities observations report and use data in the development of the design or analysis
  • Low-voltage power distribution design involving power feeders, lighting, receptacle and miscellaneous equipment branch circuits, power distribution equipment including switchgear, switchboards, motor control centers, VFDs, distribution panels, transformers and panelboards.
  • Preform
  • Medium-voltage (up to 35 kV) power distribution design involving power feeders, medium voltage switchgear, protective relaying schemes and equipment specifications

What you will bring:

  • 5+ years of experience working in a design engineering capacity
  • Experience performing power system analysis including short circuit studies and protective device coordination studies
  • Experience using electrical system analysis using commercially available electrical system analysis software (SKM, EasyPower, ETAP)
  • Engineering/Technical degree or equivalent experience
  • Solid understanding of power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, emergency power generation and the NEC
  • Proficiency with software tools to include Revit and AutoCAD
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving technical skills
