Weston & Sampson is seeking an experienced Climate Resiliency Urban Designer or Engineer to join our Water Resources Group in our Reading or Boston office locations. In this role, you will work alongside project managers, designers, and other technical staff to foster the success of climate adaptation and resilience projects along the East Coast. You will drive the development of project and program scopes and budgets, interact and work with clients, and identify opportunities to provide additional mitigation and resilience support.

What you’ll do:

  • Support client and business development activities, with a focus on local, state, and federal government clients
  • Manage tasks in support of the development of climate resilience plans at a range of scales, from site specific adaptation projects to regional resiliency action plans
  • Coordinate across technical teams to deliver a range of technical deliverables including coastal adaptation design, risk and vulnerability assessments, solution development and evaluation, and implementation planning.
  • Support public outreach and engagement initiatives including experience with building partnerships, consensus building, and/or dispute resolution
  • Facilitate project team meetings and track progress and budgets
  • Participate in client and project development opportunities, identify client needs, and assist with proposals and marketing materials
  • Complete other research and writing tasks, as necessary, to support a wide range of mitigation and resilience planning tasks and overall plan development
  • Mentoring, coaching and team building

What you will bring:

  • 5-10 years of experience in urban design, ideally also in climate resiliency
  • Familiarity with best practices of climate resilience, including the use of flood hazard data and risk mitigation strategies for inland flooding, coastal flooding, and precipitation including working knowledge of federal hazard mitigation programs
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment across multiple technical teams and regions
  • Experience with public speaking and ability to represent our company at public hearings, workshops, and seminars
  • Ability to handle flexible workload, diverse project files, and working well with multiple staff members
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Architecture, Civil Site/Structural Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, or related field
  • Prior experience with project, financial and client management as well as project and resource allocation scheduling and meeting facilitation ideal but not required
