Weston & Sampson is seeking a Sr. Project Manager with 7-10 years of experience with utility design to work in our Apex, NC office. Our Transportation group is rapidly expanding our engineering practice to help deliver on a variety of exciting projects both existing and newly awarded. 

 

What you’ll do:

  • Responsible for the following:
    • Preparing studies, design plans, specifications and other contract documents for public bidding and to meet client deliverables
    • Leading a variety of transportation related projects from a technical and financial perspective and overseeing the work of support staff
  • Assist in the development of utility design plans for a variety of transportation and municipal projects
  • Prepare:
    • Special Provisions / Specifications according to NCDOT / municipal guidelines
    • Estimates for projects at various stages
    • And submit Permit Packages to various state agencies
    • Legible, concise, scaled notes and drawings.
  • Perform on-site field work, including:
    • Walking the project site / corridor to verify the existing conditions of utilities
    • Observation of contractors and sub-consultants during construction
    • Verify the as-built conditions of facilities.
  • Represent and promote Weston & Sampson at project meetings, conferences, and professional society events
  • Peer review services of designs prepared by others.
  • Mentor junior staff in the development of utility design plans, specifications and special provisions
  • Work will also include supporting our other disciplines as well as our external client base
    • Some travel will be required within NC to client meetings and project sites, and potentially to other W&S office locations and industry conferences / seminarsoutside of NC

What you will bring:

  • BS in Civil or Mechanical Engineering is required; MS in Civil Engineering is desired.
  • Professional Engineer License in NC, or the ability to obtainwithin 1 year
  • Experience with the following:
    • Hydrologic/ hydraulic modeling softwarefor analyzing water distribution systems
    • Site Design to develop Site and Grading Plans for proposed Station Sites.
    • NCDOT Engineering Design Standards preferred
    • Perform a Utility Conflict Analysis between proposed roadway / hydraulic designs and existing utilities.
  • Background with the design of Sanitary Pump Stations, force mains, and gravity sewers.
  • Capable of reading DOT plans in order to differentiate between existing and proposed conditions
  • Bentley MicroStation experience or ability to learn; MS Office Suite including Publisher, AutoCAD is a plus
  • .Ability to work and interact with Client and Utility Owner Points of Contact.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and organization and time management skills
